Autumn 2021 - in the desert Wadi Rum, Humeima, Ma'an, Amman

This time I started in Amman and gone by JETT bus to Wadi Rum. It goes on the Desert Highway which is very boring road, only first when we are approaching junction towards Petra and later towards Ma'an it begin be a little better landscape around and the desert is more and more nearer.

Next day some tourist should ride hot balloon and I was going and looking how it works, but myself I wanted not ride.

Unfortunately the weather was not so very good so they cancelled all other rides, only one balloon managed to go up.

Instead I stayed at the camp enjoying the desert and camp also. It is one small camp, I prefer such kind of camps than any big and luxury tents. When I am in the desert I wish to feel more "the soul" of the desert, freedom, not with many people around shouting, running around etc.

One day in Humeima searching after the pool.

I have been already twice in Humeima but never I succeeded to find the pool, first one in the world it says. This time I decided to go there again and not leave until I find it. And after a while, going here and there, at finish I found it.

The picture above was taken maybe 20 years ago when Dan Gibson, a Middle Eastern historian was there for to explore the whole area there.

And the picture down I took now. It was nobody who took care of it and it was full of sand only, so it was not so strange that it was so difficult to find it. But anyway I was happy to see it and imagine how it could be before.

I hope some archeologist will go there and try to restore it as much as possible. I am in contact with Dan Gibson and wrote to him about it. He wish to go back and wrote to me "My dream is to go back with a film crew and lots of time.  But if we make a sequel film, it will most likely be all about scholars and their opinions." so I will see if ... or not ...

One trip to Ma'an to look at old Hejaz railway station.

The station was located outside Ma'an, not inside as I thought. I was going there with my friend from Wadi Rum village so it was easier for him to ask people where we can find it.

Of course it had other appearance than before because it is under renovation.  It was interesting, I found even one room there with some machines, have no idea what i can be, but they looked old.

I wished also to see old Ma'an but it was not much left, only a couple of ruined houses, full of sand also and a little difficult to to get closer so I had to take pictures from the road only.

We had also visited place where it was one castle but I got to promise to not mention what for castle it was, so I will only put a little pictures. Because it was also renovation object so maybe due that the workers asked me to not talk about that.

And a few pictures from Ma'an

too bad it hangs cables over the street and disturbs the picture

On the way back to Wadi Rum

We did stop and have a late lunch - Baba Ganoush - it was very good - I like to sit in the desert, take a pause, cook food, drink tea - one of the best event, relaxing, talking, enjoying, listen to desert silence.

Beautiful view from the cave over the desert, and strange well possibility to connect you to the world.

Nabateans temple in Wadi Rum

Nabateans temple where I have been a couple of years ago, 2017, have been change so much since then. Probably no one take much care of this, not clean, take out sand and even not restore walls with pillar which were there before, like this one, it is not anymore there now.

Left is only this bellow
.

But everything take end and it was time for me to go back home via Amman where I stayed a couple of days and did one trip not so far from there to one very interesting castle Qasr al-Abd. I have read about before. It was a sad story about it. If it is true I know not, maybe yes maybe no. Describing of the castle says something other than I have heard.

Here is the story: A freed slave loved the daughter of his ex. lord and asked to marry her as she loved him too. He was allowed to do so, but first he had to build a castle worthy daughter of the lord. He built it, showed to his f.d. lord and again asked permission to marry her now.
But, his lord instead of blessing them killed him. Sad story about a brutal lord.

Last night I stayed at my favorite hotel in Amman enjoying the company of rabbits, overlooking Roman theater.
