As usual I was going to Wadi Rum again, landed in Amman and flew to Aqaba were rented the car for a couple of days. I would like to rent it for a longer time, but Swedish crown have very weak currency for now so it was not possible for me.
Those castles bellow I visited this time are not among the known other, they are not called desert castles either even though they are located in the desert. But it was worth seeing, so if you have a little more time and go nearby, you can take the opportunity to take a look there too.
Castle Mudawwara I wanted visit already before but not managed properly, I took only fast one picture. But now I had time for to do it properly and it was worth.
The castle is located on the shore of Saudi Arabia, near the town of Mudawwara. It was easy to get there with a regular car, actually within walking distance of paved road.
There wasn't much left, 3 walls and the yard in between so it's a shame they don't take more into account and renovate the small one anyway. But I was happy, for many years I wanted to go there and see, but only now I got the chance and it was worth it.
The castle was built as a guard post and last station before the desert to the Hijaz as well as a place of relaxation for pilgrims going to Mecca under the Mamluks and Ottomans, around the year 1495.
On other day I went through Petra where I had lunch, exactly in the same place as 9 years ago and after an hour came to
Al-Dawsaq castle, it is located near Shobak on a flat place which was
surprising because in this area there are lots of hills and it is near
Wadi Musa.
I have recently been there to see Al-Dawsag Castle. Unfortunately, there wasn't much left of course, but one could still imagine how it might have looked many years ago when it might have functioned as a sentinel to protect travelers and pilgrims going to Mecca.
However, it is still unclear what was the reason for its construction. Could also be a Byzantine church (but to my eyes it doesn't look like a church) or caravanserai.
The first time it was discovered was in 1864 by Mauss and Sauvaire, since then there were some other explorers and even Alois Musil was there in 1905
Alois Musil travelled much around the whole region of Arabia and was the first one explorer who discovered the Qasr Amra and Tuba, among other places.
However, the surroundings are not very attractive, just flat nothing, a few kilometers from Shobak.
But if you happen to pass by, you can still take a look there and enrich your knowledge.
| The car would not be there, but it was sunny when I took photo and now noticed the car there, first now, when I make this blog. |
In Wadi Rum I did jeep tour again, by my own now, but not drove so far from the village because I want not to go lost, haha. So I only drove around where I was sure to find back.
Not so many people or rather only me I have been here. Probably people, tourists are afraid to go to Jordan due the war In Gaza and the attacks between Iran and Israel.
When I arrive, here were many cars on parking place, both in Visitor Center so also in the village, but after the missile attacks from Iran it became be empty.
